The Silent Heroes Memorial Centre, Berlin, 27.09.2014
The Silent Heroes ("Stille Helden") Memorial Centre is inside the Hackesche Höfe, a series of eight courtyards in the middle of Berlin not far from Alexanderplatz. Whilst the (Berlin) bear romps outside we are alone there with an attendant. The weather is nice and the Hackesche Höfe is a popular space for people to go to - although the memorial itself, situated on the first and second floors, doesn‘t seem to enjoy much traffic.
We are introduced to some of the silent heroes. We recognise one: Schindler.
Where is the right location to commemorate all those who did what they had to without thought of their own safety?
But at least we have a memorial.
